Buckley London – Miniature Heart Pendant Review

So here is something a bit different from me …….a review that is not beauty related BUT is beautiful!

As a new blogger I am constantly looking for ways to improve and practise my writing and one of the ways to do that is to seek out blogger opportunities. I am very new to Twitter (Find me here) and last week I was invited to attend a twitter party by @bloggerslvehub 🙂

Now this concept is pretty alien to me. I think of a party as either loud music, drinks and snogging (yes, I’m still stuck in the 90’s!) or delicious food, interesting company and scintillating conversation …..but it always involves actually physically being near people (kind of have to be for the snogging!)

I actually had to google ‘twitter party’ to find out what exactly this would entail (in brief, following a hashtag for an hour or two and chatting to fellow bloggers and brands via the limited letter count of twitter, sometimes with a theme or specific question/s to discuss) and after my crash course I set sail on the good ship #BHTWITTERPARTY!

I connected with a few brilliant brands during this frantic couple of hours and other reviews will be upcoming. I didn’t think that I had been successful in my application to review this gorgeous necklace, as I did not hear anything via email as others did and as this has been a solely beauty blog so far I didn’t hold out much hope, so I was pleasantly surprised when I opened my post on Saturday and found this very elegant white box.

The box would make this ideal to be given as a gift and has a small ribbon handle at the top – that you can’t quite see in this picture 😉

The Brand

Buckley Jewellery was launched in 1989 by Adrian Buckley with the aim of designing and manufacturing the best quality fashion & costume jewellery at competitive prices. The company has won the prestigious award for ‘Best Costume Jewellery” four times at the UK Jewellery awards and numerous international accolades.

Buckley London is well known for helping raise vital funds in aid of The Royal British Legion through the sale of the uniquely designed jewelled Buckley Poppy Brooch, as seen on the British Royal Family and in Vogue, Elle & Grazia magazines. The RBL is the UK’s leading charity that supports serving and ex-Service personnel in the British Armed Forces.

Buckley London is stocked at over 600 international retail locations including 100 airports around the globe. Buckley London is also present inflight on over 150 airlines and many cruise services. In November 2014, Buckley opened a new store within Westfield London, featuring the Buckley London brand and Adrian Buckley’s other brands BOUTON and the very gorgeous vintage inspired Attwood & Sawyer.

The Necklace

The Miniature heart pendant* is a dainty hand crafted heart (12 x 12mm), plated with cool rhodium and rose gold and pave encrusted with clear Austrian crystals. It is suspended from a polished rolo chain (symmetrical links that are joined together). The chain length is 16″ with a 2″ extender.

It comes with a standard 2 year warranty and is reversible. You can decide whether to show the crystal side or the plain rose gold side. It doesn’t state this on the website but there is a little sticker on the box.

My Thoughts

This isn’t at all the sort of jewellery that I would usually go for. I am all about the statement necklace – big, chunky and industrial or neo-gothic / boho style with plenty of silver, black and turquoise (think Maison de Morgana).  Simple, feminine, dainty and sophisticated isn’t me, although I do have some fairly dainty Elsa Peretti Tiffany Hearts in my collection from way back in my early 20’s! I have, however, always been a necklace girl (bracelets annoy me and earrings get lost behind my hair!)

Having said that, there is something undeniably gorgeous about this little heart and I can see myself wearing this for more formal occasions (say a job interview where my normal necklaces may look a little much) or even a date (perhaps it will bring me some luck in that department?!)

I won’t subject you to a picture of me wearing it (albeit to say I definitely needed the 18″ chain as otherwise it was more of a choker). It is very difficult to get a decent picture of the neck / bust area when you live on your own! Here it is displayed on is a much more palatable model – my Egyptian Bastet statue (which wriggles less than the bunny …yep, I did briefly contemplate that!)

The necklace is well made and whilst small, feels substantial and solid to the touch. Being reversible gives a bit of variety and allows wear for many different occasions.

Buckley London do a comprehensive Heart range and whilst the same pendant in Black and it’s matching ring are more my usual style, it is nice to have something a bit different that I can wear for a more subtle effect.
